New roof

The insurance adjuster was out this afternoon and confirmed that we need a new roof, new gutter, downspouts, and some fence repairs thanks to the hail storm we had a few weeks back. This is the first time we have ever had to file a claim with insurance. The estimated damage comes to over $13,0000!!!! FORTUNATELY we have a deductible of only $500! At one point the adjuster was on the very tip top point of our roof with a bag and a measuring tape--I was so nervous that he was going to fall off so I had to go inside.

Angie, I was just telling another friend this ... take the insurance check and call my husband to get a crew out there to replace it for MUCH cheaper. You can pocket a whole lot of extra money that way :) because you aren't paying a middle man contractor to bring his crew over. Seriously, call me and I'll have Gary get a crew over there for a much more resonable estimate ... but there's no harm in TAKING the check for $13k. lol.

Janette, thanks! I didn't know Gary did that--please let me call him! I'm sure he is really busy right now! About my kids, they are actually almost exactly 18 months apart. I got pregnant with Sus one month after we had them sealed.

Gary doesn't do roofing ... he actually works as a superintendent for a wholesale flooring company. He's just been hired as a contractor on a bunch of residential home flips, so he's got a crew for everything. He speaks Spanish and spends all day everyday with the guys building houses, so it would be so EASY for him to find a good crew and send them your way. You'd be SHOCKED and amazed at how much these general contractors get paid to do absolutely NOTHING! If you can bypass the contractor and got straight to the manual laborers, it's MUCH cheaper. That's what Gary does. lol.
